    Question APRS Question

Sorry - not an IRLP question, but this forum is the closest thing I could find to being relevant. Question is regarding unproto addressing in 2 meter APRS. I am using UI-View32 and transmitting weather station information over the air. I chose not to sent over my local internet too as this defeats the purpose of the 2 meter radio portion of this hobby. I also iGate other mobile stations as a fill in for the area. There's another iGate 7 miles from me and his iGate always captures my transmissions and gates them, as it should; but I don't want his iGate to gate my transmissions at all. I tried unproto addressing to specify another iGate's callsign and that doesn't work. I have used WIDE2-2 and that doesn't work. Is there a way to NOGATE a specified callsign, ie the iGate closest to me, and allow the next closest gate to grab my traffic? I am more interested in seeing how my propagation is rather than publishing information to the internet. I realize the whole point of APRS is to use the closest gate, but I want to publish my weather data on more distant iGates rather than my local. I may as well gate it directly to the internet without using radios at all if that's the case... (BORING!) Maybe I should be looking at a different aspect of the packet hobby if I am looking for beaconing for propagation or looking DX reports. Opinions and ideas are welcomed.

    Thanks

I'd suggest joining the TAPR APRS Special Interest Group's email reflector and posting this question there.
