My comment after hearing that was, "Riley, Just do your f#$$ing job". It's not that some of the things he said are not true and some good advice was given, but it's like my favorite old vaudeville sketch, "The Doctor Sketch". A guy walks into a Doctor's office flapping his arm saying, "It hurts when I do this", and the doctor replies, "Well don't do that!". It's funny, but the doctor isn't doing his job. Riley getting up in front of hams telling them "Well don't do that!" isn't doing his job.

There were in his time maybe a dozen bad hams. Now there are hundreds. Imagine had he cleaned up the dozen the impact on the hundreds would be now. We'll never know.

    On a scale of 1 to 10, that deserves a +25.

Absolutely. When it is observed that loutish behavior has no consequences, you get more of it. Simple law of human nature.

I'm glad that clown is no longer running enforcement.

He looked the other way while bad stuff occurred on his watch, then he tells the ham community "lighten up", and "Wash the car, cut the grass."

A lot of people who don't do thier jobs wish the same thing.

It's pathetic how hams slobber all over this slacker.
Hahaha....I would have loved to have seen the expression on PVL's face when he was in wild agreement until Riley got to the contest section. Then the horror. Oh the horror!

Too bad for you Laura hasn't indicated any intent to depart from Riley's sage observation....

I don't know Riley, but I watched the video and agreed with most everything he said. I'll never understand why there are so many pointless pissing contests in ham radio---or outside of ham radio, for that matter. Life is too short and ham radio is too much fun.

Great video indeed. And it gave me a new punchline. The next time someone asks why I don't have an external amp, I'll answer, "I already have crutches!"

Was gonna type a response and realized that this post pretty much sums it up already.

I think it's fair to say a lot of us take the hobby too seriously at times.
    This is only human......

This is why I can laugh at some of the videos Burt puts up on YouTube...

Sure I don't like to have my weekly rag chew spoiled by some ham who has had way too much and is still blasted and decided to get on the air and call CQ for half an hour 1.5KC down from us....
And NO we don't own the frequency and none of us think that we do...
What the hell it's just a hobby......

I was at this speech in 2007 and was uninspired. I suppose it helps to stand in front of a group and state what everyone there already knows. The amateur service could use more accountability and less wishful thinking from regulators.
