    Default Ameritron AL-80B To A Kenwood TS-2000

Ok guys and gals, this may be a dang stupid question but ???? What do I need to hook up this amp to the kenwood?? Is the buffer relay needed or not? I did find a few pre-made relay cables also, now if I get one of those do I get one with the ALC line, just do not want to bugger up the radio so I guess I am a little smart in that thinking that Thanks Michael

You do NOT need a buffer relay for the AL-80B. Period. Using one won't hurt anything, but there's no benefit.

Use the ALC. The AL-80B ALC works very well and is compatible with the TS-2000 just fine.

The AL-80B is low-voltage, low-current keying just the way it comes. I can't think of any rig that cannot directly key the AL-80B.

Well I've heard the IC-706 series was really fussy about what it would key. Other than that every other rig seemed to work.
I haven't seen a cable for the TS-2000 to an external amplifier that didn't include the ALC with the KEY connections. The cable is easy to make and it's detailed in the manual.
Don't forget to activate the linear amplifier control relay by switching ON menu 28A. It's on page 94 of the manual.
    Have fun
