    Default TS-790 SAT operation

    Hello out there,

I've obtained an TS-790E. Playing around with all features included I did not get the SAT mode working.
All 3 Modules are installed (2m 70cm 23cm) but if I press the F-Button then SAT I get the 581.... on the Display but thats all. After pressing PTT I'am returned to the prior operation Mode, no SUB RX is activated.

What's my fault or I' am stupid

    best regards
    Frank

hello Frank i have a TS790A the only differece being the frequency coverage. this is how i do it. Tune the sub to the downlink e.g 436.800 for AO27. Press main. press F(func) then sat. the pre programmed freqency is the sum of the uplink + downlink. i have programmed AO27 as memory 4. i then select mem 4 i.e 582.645 .press sat again sat is no longer displayed. go to sub press sat twice the uplink frequency should now change to 145.845 (436.800+ 145.845) as you tune up or down on the downlink press sat twice. this will shift the uplink in the opposite direction. hope this helps. by the way i only find this useful on the fm birds. hope to work you sometime 73 de Joe EI5EV.

Satellite mode on the T-790 can be a bit confusing; it supposedly compensates for Doppler Shift, but you have to understand how to "program" the frequencies; it's not exactly intuitive.
If you don't have the original owner's manual, by ALL means, find it (I believe it's on the web) and study the satellite operation procedures. For the FM birds, the 790's "Satellite" mode isn't really necessary.

AMSAT-UK and Surrey Satellite Technology (SSTL) Ground Control operations at University of Surrey (UK) did use TS-790E transceivers for a number of years.
