    Default Heckalopter rides

For the past 6 months I've been taking regular helicopter rides to a couple of our remote radar sites. I never saw so much wildlife as I did today. Saw TWO herds of bison, about 30 moose, an elk, a coyote, an eagle and a hawk, and a few straggling migrating bids...probably sand hill cranes.

Our plot is a guy who usually flies for the department of fish and game, so he's not avers to flying right above the trees for a better look. Cool stuff.

I was telliin' myself the same thing! It was a last minute semi-emergency radar-fixin' call, so I barely had time to grab my tool box. I guess I should get an extry camera for my toolbox.

The first bison I ever saw were in a pasture around the Budweiser brewery in North Columbus. Not sure why they brought them in. Maybe the clydesdales threatened to strike.

And I learned something about them during my visit to Yellowstone. They can show you which park visitors just arrived at the park. You'll see a string of cars pulled over and dozens of people on the side of the road snapping pictures of a single bison, lying low in the grass well across the river. Those are the newcomers. And if they just drive around the next bend in the road, there's a herd of a thousand or so. And if you have never had to stop to wait for a herd to cross the road, you haven't been to Yellowstone.

If Alaska can put up with Eric I guess it can put up with Bison. They are similar.

Y'all have some muskoxen up there also, don't you?

Fascinating animals, especially during the rut. Kinda like two steam locomotives at full throttle hitting head-on.
