It sounds like you're trying that at qrz.com but they look like Google searches. I don't think the search engine at qrz.com handles that site: type language.

Those searches work just fine at Google and I think it's the better way to go anyway. New content from qrz.com seems to be visible on Google within hours.

The search on most sites suck and qrz.com is no real exception. The reason is that most sites try to search the content in the database which works okay for smaller sites but falls apart with lots of content. The good way for a web site to implement its own search is to use something like Solr or Elastic Search. That's exactly what I've spent most of this week doing for a big site that I look after.
    This is getting FRUSTRATING
I am looking for my thread on the IC-745 I posted here about three years ago.
Not only that I cannot get any hits off that search term.

AND IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE I TYPE IT.

what good does it do to have a search function that doesn't work.

I used the Google search method available at the top of these forum pages. The language I used was found in a post that explained the proper way to do searches on this site. After using the instructions for implementing a proper search, and having no luck, I posted the message we're now discussing.

Well... I could be wrong but I don't think the built-in site on the forums understands that syntax. There would be no point in restricting by site anyway because you're already here. I'm pretty sure someone gave you Google syntax and either you or the original poster misunderstood.

If you want to use the search here then remove the site:forums.qrz.com. Just enter the words.

I don't think the built in search function works at all anymore.

    You are correct about that.

The post I found about the search is entitled: "HOW-TO: Searching For-Sale Listings". When I search "rohn", it gives me results for every reference on the QRZ Web site. As the "HOW TO" post implies, I was trying to search only for Rohn equipment for sale. There may not be a way to do that.

As far as I can see, the search on the forums here at qrz.com doesn't have a way to search in a specific forum but...

The following may not be perfect but it does pretty much what you want if you use Google.

    rohn "gear for sale" site:forums.qrz.com

It makes use of the fact that every For Sale post has "Gear for Sale" in the navigation links at the top. I don't think there is a way to sort by date but I think the new items usually come first in the search results by default.
