Kenwood gives away all their programming software, but you still gotta buy or build the interface cable.

The Kenwood PG-4S programming cable is l-o-n-g discontinued - what are people using for a replacement?

A quick search on EBay for "Kenwood PG-4S" shows 3 people selling compatible cables. In fact, I rarely buy the "real" programming cables any more, since I can always find a rig cable on EBay.

If that fails, there's another possibility: Grab the Powerwerx programming cable (the one for the HT's) and cut off the radio end. Solder up a 6-pin plug, and you're good to go.
