It used to be more than just saying you support the troops. You actually had to do something, like buy bonds or ration resources. Or become a troop. Anyway, enough OT for now.

Is that a German Short Haired Pointer? A dog is the best friend a man will ever have.

The guy just showed up at my office one day.
See, the company I used to work for was a major booster for Oregon Ducks sports activities (it was not Nike), and this photo was taken at the launch of promotion for the 2007 season of the Pape` Jam college basketball series (played in Portland every December).
Sometimes we would have the marching band promoting one event or another. Sometimes the coach. And sometimes the cheerleaders! But most often we would see the pushup dude himself.
GO DUCKS!

You know, maybe I'll change the avatar to something more personal if I ever get active on any Internet forums again. (You know, like, too much going on in the real world to chat anywhere.) In the meantime, my avatar simply states that I am a Ham.

Point is, if you're so proud of our Country, stop sending the money to other ones! hear "buy buy buy, help support our economy with that new PC or big-screen TV", but all you're supporting is China and those who sell their products (like the evil Walmart).
SO, where do you think the Hyundai Sonata, the Mazdas, Hondas Toyotas, are actually BUILT? They are built in the U.S., using American labor forces. So they give Americans jobs.
And what about Chevy, Fraud, and Chrysler? They use parts of their vehicles that are manufactured outside the U.S.
IMHO, it's not "American" to buy shoddy merchandise when good or better quality alternatives are available. And YES, the American branded vehicles have had an AMAZING change in ncreased quality, thanks to a government payout But is that too late, too little? .
Is it really good for the country to purchase a "Detroit" designed gas guzzler, when an equivalent vehicle that may have a foreign-sounding name is built in this country, and produces less pollution?
Just a thought.

(and back on topic we go...)
My avatar came from a digital photo taken with an Olympus 710 by the lady who puts up with me. We were shooting some bird pictures a while back at Manlius, NY when she grabbed one of a mallard drake. Upon further inspection she noticed the picture included a fish swimming beneath the mallard.

Two for one dinner sale! But seriously, I do a lot more shooting with my digi than I do with my hunting rifle these days. I simply buy my duck from the market.

My avatar is a mashup of several free images (plus some heavy photoshopping) and animated using Microsoft GIF animator.
For me, Amateur Radio means freedom to innovate and openly communicate.
It's harder to do this if there are any black boxes in an Amateur Radio communication mode.
