Does anyone know the pinout for the mic for this radio. I have a generic mic (round 8 pin that works on a kenwood) and was wondering if this will work on the yaesu radio as well.

How did you arrive at this conclusion??

IF you are looking for EASY Plug-N-Play, the Answer would be NO ... Based on Yaesu versus Kenwood accessories.
HOWEVER -- virtually any Microphone can be matched to a Radio's Audio Input (some easier than others).

You are correct, as with a little swapping the wires around, the mic would work. I don't wish to completely change the mic connector now, because I use that mic on a 2 meter radio, but I guess I could build a patch cable that would allow it to work when I decided to use the hf radio. Just have to decide how lazy I want to be with this project.

Correct, an adapter cable could have been built.
That is your personal choice, based on your DIY skills, motivation,
