    Default Icom IC-740 Optional Filters?

    Does anyone out there happen to recall what optional filters were available for the IC-740? Currently, I am running one of these as my primary radio (mostly SSB) and would lime to add a fiilter or two to help clean up my recieve a little bit. I looked around ebay and found an FL-30 ssb filter, but was not sure if that is a stock filter already included or an optional filter? If someone recalls what the available filters were that would be a great help. Thanks and 73s. - Greg KB1SFA

    Easier to just use "new" INRAD filters for the IC-740; there are a variety available, and most are better than the original ones used by Icom.

    A listing of available filters for the IC-740 is here: http://www.inrad.net/home.php?cat=76

    Thanks I will definitely look into INRAD's filters. I am a little surprised that someone is still making filters for a radio that old...

    There's a lot of them, and IC-745s, and IC-751s and other models that use the same filter type. It's INRAD's specialty.

    From http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/hamhf/740.html;

    EX-45 Filter 500 Hz CW/RTTY (9 MHz IF).
    EX-54 Filter 270 Hz CW narrow (9 MHz IF).
    EX-52 Filter 500 Hz CW-narrow (455 kHz IF).
    EX-53 Filter 250 Hz CW-narrow (455 kHz IF).

    All the other options for the IC-740 are listed there as well.

    There is a ceramic filter in the 455 IF. A worthwhile inexpensive mod was to replace it with the mechanical filter (if I remember correctly) from an IC-730 which would drop right in the 740.

    Hmmm...
    The manual on page 28 shows some different filters than those listed above.

    Inrad would be the way to go. Myself, I am not real crazy over SSB filters.
