The Rev. Clarence R. "Bud" Applin Jr. entered the gates of Heaven Tuesday, April 24, 2012, from Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
He was born April 14, 1932, to the late Clarence R. Sr. and Winifred Johnson Applin, and had just celebrated his 80th birthday. He was born in Dansville and graduated from Dansville High School in 1950. His wife of 51 years, Floreine Jones Applin, passed away in 2005.
In recent years, he lived in Oneonta.
Bud worked for a significant number of years in the health care field, including the SONYEA facility at Groveland, the tuberculosis hospital at Mt. Morris and Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs.
His greatest delight was his calling to ministry in which he served as a pastor for nearly 40 years. He served in churches in Hornell and Corinth, after which he founded, along with his wife, Greater Commandment Ministries. Through this church and ministry, he served people from throughout the Capital District, including Ballston Spa and Malta. Those touched by his ministry were moved by his faithfulness to them and God.
Bud was an accomplished artist and he loved drawing and painting, especially in oils.
He enjoyed arts and crafts, antiquing and amateur radio, which allowed him to talk to people from all over the world.
He will be lovingly missed by surviving siblings, Ted (Mary) Applin of Wayland, Helen Cox of Dansville, Muriel Mitchel of Dallas and Caroline (John) Congdon of Randolph. Also surviving are his five children, Major Thomas (Kathleen) Applin of Snyder, Gary (Janice) Applin of Schenectady, Laurie (Thomas) Willette of Floral City, Fla., Richard Applin of Saratoga Springs and Jeffrey (Jacqueline) Applin of Fort Edward. He was blessed by 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He will also be lovingly missed by his companion, Ellen Clark, and her family of Oneonta.
A Celebration Of Life memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2012, at The Salvation Army, 25 River St., Oneonta.
