Wouxun KG-UV6D

I recently purchased a brand new Wouxun KG-UV6D. Upon arrival, I programed my frequecnies and specs into the computer and uploaded them into the transceiver unit. However, the radio does not transmit. When the PTT button is pressed, a solid audio tone is present probably right around 1000 hz or so. Any idea's on what this might be or does it sound like a bad unit?

Either you have no transmit frequency programmed or the transmit frequency (or offset) is outside of the radios operating frequency range.

I checked over all of that. I've tried everything from transmitting from straight simplex to everything I can think of. I can't find what's wrong. I've now contacted tech support from the dealer I bought it off of,

Something else I also came across this morning. The KG-UV6D version I purchased was spec'd to receive up to 520MHz. The radio I have will not allow the receive frequency to be passed 470.995MHz, which makes me think that this a non-functional unit and came from the factory this way.

The band limits can be set with dealer software, as I understand it. Most U.S. dealers limit the transmit frequencies to ham band only. KG-UV Commander doesn't work with the UV6, but it does on older Wouxuns and it can be used to set the transmit and receive limits. The default for UHF is 470 MHz., so I suspect that's where the problem lies. I notice that some dealers are offering different UV6 versions for different commercial bands, at different prices. I'm not sure what you need to open up a UV6 at this point. Your dealer should be able to tell you if it can be done.

You have to be careful when playing with band limits. Apparently, it's easy to 'brick' the radio by trying to load improper data.

Id say you've hit the nail right on the head. The unit I purchase was described as a commercial version. I'd say the company has changed some data around an bricked the radio before it was even set to me.
