The band limits can be set with dealer software, as I understand it. Most U.S. dealers limit the transmit frequencies to ham band only. KG-UV Commander doesn't work with the UV6, but it does on older Wouxuns and it can be used to set the transmit and receive limits. The default for UHF is 470 MHz., so I suspect that's where the problem lies. I notice that some dealers are offering different UV6 versions for different commercial bands, at different prices. I'm not sure what you need to open up a UV6 at this point. Your dealer should be able to tell you if it can be done.
You have to be careful when playing with band limits. Apparently, it's easy to 'brick' the radio by trying to load improper data.
