    Lee Roy Brooks Jr., 94, of 2113 Hemlock Hill, Bluefield, died Tuesday April 17, 2012 in a Princeton hospital. Born December 15, 1917 in Kingsport, Tenn., he was a son of the late Lee Roy Brooks Sr. and Dora Sheffield Brooks. Mr. Brooks was a Postman in Bluefield for many years. He was a graduate of Beaver High School and Bluefield College. Mr. Brooks served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was stationed in the Panama Canal as a Radio Operator. He was a member of Military Amateur Radio Service (M.A.R.S.) and was a Trustee of the Amateur Radio Club of Bluefield, WAMOP. The fist of Mr. Lee Roy Brooks Jr. will no longer be heard; it is now a silent Key. His amateur station call was K8BHG. Mr. Brooks was a member of Valley View Seven Day Adventist Church.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Brooks; three brothers, Charles Brooks, Deming Brooks, and Jack Brooks; and a special niece, Loretta Perkins Harless.

    Survivors include one sister, Mary Louise Wilson of Waldorf, Md.; his best friend, Robert Keith Leonard of Bluefield; and his cousin, George Brooks of Bluefield.

    Funeral services will be conducted on Monday April 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until the service hour. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery where family members and friends will serve as pallbearers. Military graveside rites will be rendered by the Mercer County Veteran's Council.
