DXCC CARD CHECKING RULE CHANGE ---> Acting on a recommendation by ARRL Membership and Volunteer Programs Manager Dave Patton, NN1N, the ARRL's Programs and Services Committee (PSC) adopted new rules for ARRL field card checkers. ARRL card checkers now may check QSL cards for those entities
deleted from the DXCC list and, with exceptions, check cards for 160 meters (i.e. only those Card Checkers who have achieved DXCC on 160m are permitted to check 160m QSLs in the field, Ed.) In addition, the PSC decided not to change the process by which card checkers are appointed. Full details can be found at www.arrl.org

DX-INFO ---> "DX-Info is a web-based application that helps chasing for missing band and mode slots for DXCC", Marek DH9SB says. "After registration and uploading a log file in ADIF you will get a personal calendar with DX information for the current week". Detailed information can be found at www.dx-info.de

QUEEN'S DIAMOND JUBILEE SPECIAL PREFIXES ---> Subject to prior authorisation, individual amateur radio operators and Club stations in the United Kingdom may use special prefixes from 5 May to 10 June to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. The second letter in the existing call sign (D, I, J, M, U, W, etc, plus E for Intermediate licences) may be replaced by the letter "Q"; where no second letter exists, the letter "Q" may be added. For instance, GD0XXX (Isle of Man), GI0XXX (Northern Ireland), GJ0XXX (Jersey), GM0XXX (Scotland), GU0XXX (Guernsey), GW0XXX (Wales) and G0XXX (England) may all be amended to GQ0XXX.

C6, BAHAMAS (Update to OPDX.1056). MDXC C6AGW PRESS RELEASE #2 (TESTING IN THE RAIN) [edited]: "During the [past] weekend, under the Italian rains (cats and dogs raining, hi), Gabriele, I2VGW, has tested all the antennas and the equipments for his Bahamas round trip. As announced, he plans to be operating as C6AGW starting April 26th through May 6th from Biminis Islands (NA-048) and/or Berry Islands (NA-054) quite rare IOTA references and, of course, also from New Providence and Long Island, Great Bahama Bank (NA-001). Following also the requests of many lighthouses chasers, Gabriele would like to confirm that all these references will be printed on his QSL card. That's meaning: New Providence (main) Island is LH 1115 and NA-001; Long Island is LH 1898 and NA-001; Bimini Island (South) is LH 2467 and NA-048; and Berry Island (Gr. Stirrup Cay) is LH 1903 and NA-054. We remind you that this new Gabriele adventure will be a holiday style operation. In any case Gabriele, as usual, will give great emphasis to the Digital modes and the WARC bands, but he'll keep in his mind SSB too. He'll take with him his Icom 7200, a Hampole, a KW5 and a Buddipole. For more info and any updates, visit the DXpedition's Web site at:http://www.mdxc.org/c6agw Gabriele will be supported by the MDXC with an online log, news in real- time, pictures and videos."

FO, FRENCH POLYNESIA (IOTA Op). Pat, F4EBT, will be active as FO/F4EBT between June 1-24th, and plans to activate the following French Polynesia IOTA Islands: Tahiti (OC-046), Moorea (OC-046), Raiatea (OC-067), Huaine (OC-067), Bora-Bora (OC-067) and Maupiti (OC-067). GM, SCOTLAND (IOTA/SCOTIA Op!). Andre, GM3VLB, will once again try to activate some of the SCOTIA islands (SCOTtish Island Award) he missed last year in the Orkney IOTA Group (EU-009, SCOTIA OI14). He states, "In the hope of completing what I now call the 'SCOTIA Challenge', which in my own case means activating the last five of the program's 200 islands which I haven't yet activated, I am returning to the Orkney (EU-009) group, arriving there May 21st. I have a return booking on June 7th, but I am prepared to remain in EU-009 longer, if necessary. Having been dogged by high winds in late summer/early autumn on previous expeditions to the Northern Isles, I am trying the earlier part of 'activating season' this time. The 5 remaining islands are Muckle Green Holm (OI20), Linga Holm (OI21), Eynhallow (OI24), Faray (OI28) and Calf of Eday (OI29). Some are quite difficult to approach and to land on (steep rocky shores) as well as being subject to very strong tidal current (the waters off Eday are in fact the chosen location for testing the latest tidal generators, so near-perfect weather conditions will be required. I believe most may be first-time activations. This will be a 'solo' operation (XYL Veronica having decided discretion was the better part of valour!). If successful, I hope to continue activating islands, this season, in a more relaxed way, hopefully teaming up with regular 'island buddy' Alex, G(M)0DHZ, to re-activate some less remote islands, which even some of the high-scoring SCOTIA chasers may have missed - I will be doing an analysis of the records to determine the 'most wanted'."

C9, MOZAMBIQUE. Operators Daniel/ZS6JR and Dior/ZS6DJD will be operating from Mozambique for 7-10 days starting on May 3rd or 4th, depending on how quick they install/get their equipment up and running. Dior informs OPDX, [edited] "The idea was to park next to a small lake in Shai Shai, Mozambique, 400 km north of the capital and operate all vertical antennas with the earth wires in the water and see what we could do. So we will operate vertical on most bands 40m to 10m, but Daniel has also decided to take a Hex beam antenna with him. If we get a chance, we will also work 6m and 80m. I do not have a callsign as yet. We will be getting it soon. I will probably get C91JD or C91DJ or C91DN. Conditions allowing, we should be on all the bands." Some suggested frequencies by Dior are:
    20m - 14210, 14200, 14195 or 14190 kHz
    15m - 21280, 21275, 21270, 21.265 or 21250 kHz

Barry tells OPDX that this is not a holiday operation, but a serious operation. He will use low power (100w) with wire antennas, and it is possible that a fellow ham will be joining him to ramp up the activity. He also mentions that this is his 27th one man DXpedition, and that "I am an old style ham and this is on my 80th year. For example paper logs!" Look for him to be on 40/20/17/15/10 meters SSB only. XZ, MYANMAR (Update to OPDX.1037). Back in November, Simon, HS0ZIB/G6JFY, informed OPDX that his QTH in Thailand is only a few hours drive to Myanmar, and he makes regular trips to the country (He states that he is there weekly). It seems his discussions with authorities from the Myanmar Ministry of Post & Telecommunications and the Ministry of Tourism for about a year has paid off and he now has a license. Simon has been allowed to set up a "low-key" station in Kawthaung and is expected to be on the air as XZ1K. However, activity will be limited. Currently, Simon works as a volunteer language (English and Thai) and computer teacher in Myanmar, as well as a professional construction/ manager in both Myanmar and Thailand, so amateur radio operations have to fit in with his busy work schedule. He states, "I will try to schedule my ham radio activities to fit in with band and propagation conditions, and openings/greyline paths. His tentative band plan and mode of operation are as follows:
20m - PSK 14070 kHz UP (He will watch the waterfall up to 3 kHz)
20m - SSB 14160 kHz UP as directed
10m - SSB 28400 kHz UP as directed

    SPECIAL NOTES (per Simon):
    * For SSB operations, he will usually work split, up to 5 kHz UP (so please do not all call him on the exact same frequency).
    * For PSK operations, he will watch his Digipan waterfall up to 3 kHz UP (please do not call on his transmit frequency).
    * Please do not call for duplicate QSOs - you are either in the log or you are not in the log!
    * If mobile network coverage allows, he will upload QSOs in real-time, otherwise please check his log later.
    * Please use your full callsign, do not call using only the suffix.
    * Shouting, pleading and invoking Mother of God will not help you to make a QSO.
    * This is NOT a limited time DXpedition - Simon is expected to be in Myanmar for many years.
    * Please consider making a donation to <MyanmarTeachers.org>.
    * If you need to contact him, please do so via his E-mail address on QRZ.com.
All QSL card requests for QSO contacts and SWL (short wave listener) reports are made by OQRS (Online QSL Request Service). There is no direct mail, Bureau, LoTW or eQSL support. OQRS costs 5 USDs per QSL card, and you can also add (at your absolute discretion) an optional donation for his volunteer work - please visit <www.myanmarteachers.org>. You can pay online using Paypal, debit or credit card. (If you do not have a debit/ credit card, please ask a friend to make the payment for you). For more details, updates and an online log search, visit: http://www.xz1k.org

ZS8, MARION ISLAND. "The Daily DX" reports that there is a new operator on the island, and he is Rory, ZS6RGV, who is a radio technician for the base on Marion Island. He currently does not have a ZS8 callsign, but Pierre, ZS1HF (ex-ZS8M), is expected to help him obtain one. Also, it may be sometime before we hear Roy because he is very busy at the moment helping with the change over (old team with the new team) on the island. "The Daily DX" reports that Rory has an IC-736 and FL-7000. Pierre, ZS1HF, is planning to be the QSL manager, once Rory is on the air.

DAYTON HAMVENTION NEWS (Press Release - SWODXA DX DINNER ANNOUNCEMENT). Joe Pater, W8GEX, <W8GEX@aol.com>, dated April 30, 2012: "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- The SOUTHWEST OHIO DX Association (SWODXA) wants to remind everyone that the DX Dinner™ is less than three weeks away. DIGIFEST 2012. The annual "Digifest" will be held as usual on the 1st full weekend of June (2012 dates are June 2nd and 3rd). This is going to be Digifest's 5th year, and its popularity is growing with last year's received LOGs number of more than 200. Peculiarity of this Contest is the great variety of different categories of the participants in 5 digital modes: RTTY 75, BPSK 63, MFSK 16, HELLSCHREIBER, OLIVIA and the most fair points calculation based on the distance between the stations. The Contest consists of 3 convenient periods (8 hours each) during the weekend. To add more adrenalin into this competition a special feature will be offered to those who like competing in real time # online results will be presented on a server. And, of course, a lot of real nice prizes, mostly RigExpert AA-230 and AA-30 Antenna Analyzers and RigExpert USB Interfaces. All prizes sponsored by RigExpert Ukraine Ltd. Since the number of the participants is relatively small and the most populated competing area is Europe, the "far away" stations from NA, SA, Africa, Asia and Australia are at great advantage. From the last year's experience those stations were the most prize winners. Considering this and also to support growing participation from Europe, the sponsors "double" the prizes # i.e. separate main prizes are now available both for Europe and for the "rest of the World". But wait, that's not all! For those of you who won't be able to win "main prize" in respected category, there will be a lot of small gifts, like T-shirts and paper awards. All the prizes will be mailed to participant's home addresses. The results are usually available just 2 weeks after the end of the Contest, So, let's just meet on the 1st weekend of June and have fun! Complete rules can be found at:
