Default LOTW, What is a Signed Certificate vs and Unsigned Certificate?

I'm trying to go through the process for getting LOTW up and running and in the request for certificate, the program is asking do I want a signed vs and unsigned certificate. I don't know which I want.

Also, what is a certificate? Is this something I get in the mail?

I don't remember specifically, but the instructions page has fairly detailed instructions with pictures and all.
That is how I set up LOTW and I had no issues.

When you set it up for the FIRST time, you want to select "unsigned" certificate. The instructions provide a step-by-step guide and this step is also explained there.
