I worked them a couple of times on 6 meters SSB, South Dakota is not an easy state to get on 6 meters from Kansas.

Erm...thats the reason a lot of casual ops work the contests. To find states, countries, counties, prefixes or provinces for various awards.
I've received dozens of QSL requests after contests from hams who say PSE QSL FOR WAS. In fact, I received a bureau VK QSL card from the CQWW in 2010 in which I was his first USA station on 40 meters...I even sent the return QSL back to him direct.
