AZ-EL system
I ws looking and Googling a AZ-EL system to start for SATs. I got an ICOM IC-821 an thought this would be a good radio...wanted to do birds. I have an arrow for FM but wanted to build AZ-EL system for SATs. Anyway...I guess I have a lot of reading to do...STAMPS PICS control with cpu .
I was hoping for a little easier entry into the system and the sticker shock WOW.....I know that the antenna system can be expensive but I look at the you tube and not everyone is using the y-5500 some of the related links do not work...guess article to old,
I guess I am trying to find someone that has something that is a starter system that works or recommendations

Terry,
The Yeasu G-5500 AZ-EL rotator system price has risen significantly since the March 2011
Japanese earthquake & tsunami. Yaesu had some operations and sub-contractors in that region,
Yaesu stated in late March 2011 that they moved some production to China.
Due to the short-term unavailability of replacement motors for the Yaesu G-5500,
David Palmer, KB5WIA actually rewound his damaged AC motor (and documented the work).

A stepper motor AZ-EL system was shown at 2010 AMSAT conference,
but I have not seen recent advertisements about that system.
On YouTube in 2009, kuroshinin1 shows a stepper based system.
Some telescopes have done the same with stepper motors

Here's a link to the info on the 2010 Amsat AZEl system.

I have done a lot of searching for AzEl systems for the same thing.
"Cheap" or "inexpensive" don't come into the equation for commercial systems and while there are a few Youtube videos of homemade systems, actual construction info is very sparse.
I will be building one for myself with steppers that I will document on my website, but not for some time yet as other things are taking priority.

I have found 2 Alliance u-100...I am thinking of using them but I can't seem to locate all the info needed to build control interface or if a kit or pc board is available...anyone using the u-100 that would like to share. I think I can figure the Stamp programming out...I know it ma take awhile but the reward at the end of the tunnel will be nice.
Maybe someone has updated the system and could assist...is anyone using the Saebrtrack controller? that is with the U-100 rotors

Many aspects of amateur radio are DIY, with only a handful of restrictions, pertaining to RF transmissions.

Yes, some AMSAT operators have used the Alliance U-100/U-110 for
azimuth & elevation control of satellite antennas.

Regarding those rotors, many do use them... Recently one of my friends acquired a pair of them and has been using them. You might email AC0RA as he recently put up a pair of them.

If I were using separate AZ and EL rotors I see that there are Yaesu G-550 available for EL which would work for AZ to make a tracking system with the available control boxes and tacking boxes like the LVB Tracker?
-
Could a Yaesu g550 and a Yaesu G450 rotors be combined or interfaced for an AZ-EL system? using either the LVB tracker or rs 232 Yaesu interface.

I know that an ERC will do that. http://easy-rotor-control.com/
