I know it's not a big deal but I'm very happy about this. I managed to shoot back with only 5 watts and a vertical omni antenna.

Awesome! I try to make some APRS/packet contacts via the ISS about once a week. Sometimes I operate from the car, but normally I prefer to operate with a directional antenna. An omni *does* work for the ISS, but it's not great...(lots of nulls / loss of signal)
Consider making a little 2 or 3 element VHF beam and you will do a lot better.
Yeah thanks. Tonight I will try again with a hand held yagi. I'm not sure why I get so excited about it, it's not like it was hard work and years of trial and error, but a very rewarding ( and cool) experience.
