Ahlquist Edward Fenn "Ed" died on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the age of 102. We would like to thank the staff at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center for their kindness and support to our dad and family. He was born on January 7,1910, in Reno, Nevada to Albert Edward Fenn and Marie Beda Fenn. In July of 1912, there was a flash flood that wiped out the town of Mazuma, Nevada where his father owned a livery stable. He was two years old when his parents returned to their ranch in the Santa Cruz mountains near Glenwood, California. Being of the Great Generation era, he rode horseback to the Summit School and later took the train to Los Gatos High School where graduated in 1926. He moved to the Bay area in 1928 and worked for Western Electric for four years. He was in the United States Naval Reserve from 1929 to 1933. Due to the Depression, he was laid off from Western Electric and it gave him the opportunity to attend the University of California, Berkeley graduating in 1936. Ed moved to Fresno in 1938 where he started Fenn's Radio Store which later became Fenn's Radio and TV. In 1939, he met the love of his life, Eleanor Bergman. They were married on July 15, 1939, and started their family. He enjoyed being an amateur radio ham for over 75 years, forming many friendships over the years. He also enjoyed fishing and boating in his younger days. He learned how to use the computer and used it up until the last few years of his life. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; Eleanor, his wife of 71 years; and his son-in-law, John Knutzen. Ed was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by daughter, Lenore Knutzen; son, Norman Fenn and his wife Jennie; grandson, Norman Fenn, Jr.; three granddaughters, Kristina Schmitt and her husband Chris, Kerrie Wolfard and her husband Eric, and Kim Slaaf and her husband Antonio; three great-granddaughters, Malia and Gina Fenn and Alexandra Schmitt; and two great-grandsons, Gabriel Schmitt and Novak Slaaf. A Memorial Service will be held at Stephens & Bean Chapel on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at 10:30 a.m.
