I have owned 2 different private clubs in the past and they were just what the name implied PRIVTE members only. I find it hard to understand why some (like CBS/NBC/ABC) and others are so dense that can't soak through in so many years of it being in place. It seems every year at this time they bring it up as if it were something new and a headline story like a certain FL shooting case DAILY!

I think it might have to do with the member's sexual orientation. Gay clubs are common.

It works both ways IMO.
Men wouldn't protest because they simply don't care one way or the other. They don't lose sleep over it.

Simply put, women are a distraction in a mostly male environment. Where I work, the unwritten rule is any new hires (female) must fit the "Matronly" look otherwise, they are not hired. Sad, but true.

Oh, puh-leeze. Anybody with even a small level of maturity has no problem with such "distractions".

Also discriminatory and illegal.

And if women do get to play Augusta National, will they demand red tees? That, friends, is the real question.

When I was an Army Private at The Southeastern Signal School at Camp Gordon, Georga which is near to Augusta, an invitation came down to the troops ofmy company from the Augusta Golf Course. It was a hot summer and the Golf Course offered to permit us soldiers to go swimming in the Golf Course's swimming pool. The invitation said clearly that no Black soldiers were to be invited. An Army buddy of mine asked, "What about us Jews?". There was no answer from our First Sergent. I didn't particularly want to go swimming at that time, but my buddy insisted that I and two other Jewish guys go just to see if we were welcome. Well we were and we enjoyed swimming in the spacious pool...BUT my Jewish friend was not going to just enjoy the hospitality. He left a note stuck to the mirror in the locker room. It said something like,"Today the Negros...Tomorrow the Jews?...Adolph Hitler." I didn't like that myself. The privately owned Golf Course had a right to restrict the use of their private property to whoever they wanted to. The group of GIs from Tessy Tech came to the Golf Course in uniform and on a US governmrnt duce and a half that was paid for by taxpayers. It was friendly cooperation between government and private...In my opinion as it should be...BUT today women are active members of all the services...and after my time in the Army women have come a long way...More than 18 holes.
The first programmer of an Navy computer operating system was Grace Hopper...yet she wouldn't be allowed in the men's locker room at the Augusta swimming pool...Come to think of it she wouldn't be allowed to change in any man's locker room.
Wex, w2ilp (Inviting Lady's Politely?) They must have seperate but equal lockers...I think...

Funny you mention that. At the private course I belong to there was never any "Forward Tees" years ago. Now of course there is, in fact we have 4 sets of tee decks for each hole.
However there is a very exclusive private course not far from the one I belong to, which only has two sets of tees. Long and longer! Women can play there but they play off the same tees as the men.
It will be interesting to see what becomes of this issue at Augusta. Personally I could care less if they did not allow women to become members. As I said earlier, it is a private club, they can do as they wish.
