Tomtom's For APRS (Question)

How reliable are they?

The reason I ask is that saw some at the local Walmart for under $100. Thinking of getting one IF they're reliable & make good GPS RXers

This would leave only the cheapo brick or slab (Depending on the type & model I get of course) better known as the radio to get for my APRS setup

Thoughts?

According to this, no, they will not. You need a GPS that outputs NMEA. Pretty much the AvMaps and a few Garmin's. Model numbers are listed at the site.

Walmart also had some Garmins that were around the same price range but I wasn't paying too much attention to the price & features of them. I'll have to take another look

My thinking, goal & hope is that if I can get a "Poor Man's" GPS like I can with the radio, those (Along with the Kantronics TNC I won last year from W5KUB's webcast of Huntsville), would pretty much set me on the path of having a poor man's APRS station

This way, I can ditch APRSDroid (Which I hate clearing the data of every so often because it fills up the internal memory faster than ANY other app I have (Love the app otherwise though )
