Signatures?
I'm baffled at the use of "signatures" (maybe that's the wrong term for them)---the "one liners" that follow some amateurs' posts. Some are simply a few words while others can be half a page or more.
Some are very tasteful and witty. And almost always those are very short and direct. But others can be seemingly unending and incredibly boring. And I find myself asking "Why?" What does one's ranting on a variety of subjects have to do with amateur radio? I understand that we all can get going on a subject that we're passionate about but why is this done in such a way that it's continuously posted each time we either initiate or respond to a post?
Do others notice this or am I alone in my thinking here?
I admire people that can say much with a few well written words. Then there are others who write much and say very, very little.

What's that saying. "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS." Maybe that explains it.

Maybe it's ego, as in my signature is larger and bolder then yours? Or a strong need to be noticed or to stand out in a crowd?
Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away.

This might apply:

The "S" word... It's not the socialism, it's the stupidity behind it.

Do not underestimate the power of the Sith. Oh and please grow up a little bit. Sigs are just a way folks can leave a little something they find interesting at the end of their posts. I love reading all the different signatures sometimes more than the actual content of the posters post.

Do like I do:
Forum Actions > General Settings > Thread/Display Options > UNCheck Show Signatures > Save Changes.
Then you don't even have to know they're there.

That is so sad. You are missing a lot of good stuff. Oh well, your loss.

Thanks for the tip, it works a treat...
I also fail to understand why, the majority lack originality, some are simply far too long, and others just leave me baffled as others have stated.
There is also a hardcore of 'prolific posters' on the forums, so if one person has made several contributions to the same thread we see it over and over again, and thats just on that one thread. Go to another thread and again you see see it a zillion times, it just gets boring, sorry...
Why? I just don't get it!
Having said all that I no longer need to see them, so crack on..

I like signatures that list peoples call sign. It saves me the excruciating pain of having to look up 2 inches.
