Correct. If you get your news from the News Places* patent pending, you have to keep checking back to get all the corrections they have to make.

I'm calling you on that Sue. It'll probably be less than two years. And what'll you bet that the cancellation of her welfare handouts was due in part to the adverse publicity?
There's a reason winners are winners and losers are losers, and it is due mostly to self-discipline and responsibility.

I certianly agree regarding winners and losers.
The winner could have had her cake and eat it also with a modest amount invested in a lawyer. Most of these people never think beyond the next fifteen minutes......

Nah, I don't see that happening with this thread unless it takes a turn toward the political.

So people REALLY WIN these lotteries???? I thought it was ALL money down a Rathole! Well, it only happens once in a BLUE MOON, thats for sure. I don't play as a DOLLAR is too VALUABLE for me to wager losing. And there is a 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% chance that I would LOSE it if I played the lottery. So I go with the odds and KEEP the dollar.
Even when I went to RENO, I lost. I was AHEAD when I played the Reno city slots, ahead almost $13!
But then, my chaste wife and I stopped at the LAST CHANCE casino on the NV/CAL border for one of those $1.99 steak and eggs breakfasts. After some really good chow, we decided to give the slot machines ONE LAST CHANCE! Sure enough, it ate up EVERY LAST BIT of the Twenty Dollars I had budgeted for gambling.
I needed to win SO BADLY too. FAR WORSE than any other visitors to Nevada. I needed 6 THOUSAND DOLLARS to get a Yaesu FTdx5000, and that was my ONLY CHANCE to get it. I figured I could LOSE $20 and not have my lifestyle DRASTICALLY affected. I might have to pass on a few WEEKS worth of Meals to make up for it. Right now I am FASTING for breakfast. NO CREAM OF WHEAT, all last week and this week too. I need to SAVE EVERY CENT for gasoline for the Dayton Trip. That will cost me $1000 in gas, so that is ALOTTA Cream of Wheat I don't get to eat!
Gotta save somewhere!
So that is the GAMBLING GAMBIT. Money just THROWN AWAY on the chance you will get lucky.
This Lady actually DID get lucky. Nice to be her! But for her success with a dollar, there are a BILLION other people who just FLUSH their DOLLARS down the porcelain bowl!

Something isn't right here.....
First, Michigan does not have food stamps. They have a 'Bridge Card'. Second, I know for a fact that as little as $100 in a year for interest on a bank account will get reported and that report will start a review process. I also know that any other income, such as lottery winnings, must be reported by the recipient. Approx. twice a year forms are sent out to recipients asking about any changes in income, and some other things.
There is a 'loophole' that enables people to have a Bridge Card for a few months after they obtain money. Ms. Clayton no longer has a Bridge Card. This from ABC News:
http://abcnews.go.com/Business/michi...6#.T14A_nmd6So
Leroy Fick won 2 million in Michigan and this is what happened to him:
State human-services officials confirmed that Fick had contacted them about his winnings and was notified that he could continue to receive aid because he had taken the winnings in a lump sum and still met the income threshold for food assistance.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/...d-stamps_n.htm
So, it appears that the system had a flaw, which is probably now fixed, as Ms. Clayton is no longer receiving benefits. It appears that Mr. Fick went through the vast majority of his winnings in about a year.
