The latest info is that I emailed people at SETI and at NASA sending them the background and copies of the images. I haven't heard a peep out of them. I guess that they don't know either or that they think I'm some kind of nut.
It's probably the former. They don't know and don't want to embarass themselves in public by demonstrating their ignorance.
At least Joe Taylor, K1JT, had the guts to admit he didn't know. I admire that.

I don't know but I have also seen it on my waterfall.

Is there a wall wart anywhere in your house..?

I have been noticing stuff like this while using JT65-HF for quite some time. This time I got a real good PRINT SCRN image of it. So far, I've asked the folks at QST and CQ and K1JT. I have emails into the Engineering Dept at the University of Illinois at Chicago (my Alma Mater) and W6CAZ that haven't been answered yet. BTW, I do have other PRINT SCRN images from other occurances but this is the best.
So far, nobody has any idea about what it is or how it's made except we are all pretty sure it is not intentionally man-made.
What the heck is it and how is it done?
I also have seen this same thing and have not been able to locate a cause. It seems to start abruptly and starts spreading out as pictured when it finally ends. Then it starts all over again. Also it is on multiple frequencies. I'm still looking for a solution.

I haven't given up. I'm still working on it. I sent some pix to Arch, (Author of latest QST Article on noise) and he referred me to a ham astronomer. Neither had any idea.
It seems like the latest consensus of thought is that it is generated locally by electronic/electrical devices such as CFL bulbs, flat screen TVs and the host of other computer controlled appliances we now have.
If so, this could be an FCC violation in that such appliances are not supposed to generate RFI.
So, next upload is going to be to the FCC.

I have heard and seen the identically same thing here. It is cyclic and will start over again and again. So far I have not found it but I suspect it is an electronic control for something (like a heating pad or ?).

I have seen very similar patterns when running JT-65HF ... while our new front-loading washing machine is running. I suspect the washer has a variable frequency drive controlling the motor speed and direction ... it's too quiet for a mechanical transmission.
I will be installing an EMI filter on the washing machine power cord and will let folks know the results.

An update: I must be getting old. I should have thought of this sooner!
I had to disconnect my antenna cable while one of those weird signals was coming in. When I disconnected it, the signal disappeared. When I reconnected it, the signal reappeared along with all the ham signals. Obviously, the signal is coming in from the antenna. Since my antenna is mounted with the garage as support about 55 feet from the house (even further from neighbor's houses) and the signal is very strong on my display, I very, very seriously doubt that those weird signals are coming from anything in the house or a neighbor's house. And, no, there are no modern electronic stuff in the garage and even the old stuff is unplugged!
Nope, at my QTH, those signals are definately coming in from the "aether."

The only way to prove that is to put your computer on a UPS and your radio on a 12vdc battery and toss the main circuit breaker in your house. Then you would be 99.9% certain it is not coming from your house. The remaining .1% uncertainty would be from the UPS and from the possibility of the signal being generated from within your computer or other equipment used to observe the image. Better yet, use a laptop on internal batteries.

I suspect that it is caused by someone trying to key JT65, but in CW mode vice SSB/Data mode.
