I have a 6.5K gas generator and keep enough fuel to run it for 2 weeks. My well pump has a change over switch so I can run it from the generator as water is our most needed resource. We keep 2 weeks worth of non perishable food in the pantry. Even when running the well pump (which is not constant but as needed) I can still power several 110vac circuits for lights, the computer, ham station etc. Woodstove and wood pile with two winters worth of split, dry firewood covers our heating needs.
