Thanks every one, I have sanded the mag mount and the heavy iron piece that it is bolted to. I put grease down to help.
I have not started the bonding yet, but did pick up the materials.
The stations that I work do not hear my problem.
Keep the ideas coming, I will keep u posted.
Keep in mind, if I take the antenna off, noise goes away

Travis, do yourself a favor. Get rid of the d--- mag mount. You can do all of the sanding you want, adding ground straps galore, but nothing beats a properly mounted antenna.

What mount to you recommend. I read a lot of whats wrong with the different mounts, but I never seen what you think we should have.
I have a couple of the mounts from Hustler that would mount on the side of the tool box.
BUT, I will get what I need.

For all, the biggest reason for the MFJ mag mount, it has the largest foot print of any mount I could find. The mag mount sets on a 2" by 2" 1/4 inch plate of iron. The plate is bolted to the tool chest, the mag mount is is bolted to the tool chest through the iron plate. Around all the edges on the iron plate and mag mount commercial grade silcone glue has been used. I don't have iron shavings or such getting between the magnets and the tool chest. I used the tool chest because of the small ridges, these seemed better than the teeth on the side mounts for digging into the metal and making contact.
The tool chest is bolted to the truck bed as u are all familiar with.
My thanking, this would give me an excellent foot print for the antenna. BUT I have a problem. When I drive I have a noise problem deluxe, but the people who I talk to have no problem hearing me. The noise that I have is not being transmitted to them.
This is just more info, like I said I will start bonding in the morning. And if there is a better way I will sure be willing to change., a better mobile antenna, a better way to mount the hustlers that I have. It is a great portable station with the engine off, just a terrible mobile one.

The issue is the connection between the mag mount, and the ground plane it is stuck to. And it doesn't matter what you do to ground it, nor how many, or how large the magnets are.

I know mag-mounts are bad news, I am using the K-400 as that is the best for my needs; however, if I was in a vehicle where I had more choices I am curious what type of mount you suggest K0BG.
