I say 73 and don't care if it is correct or not. If you want to say 73s, that is fine by me as long as you don't use an apostrophe because that would be incorrect. 73's implies possession. Say 73 or 73s, I don't care as long as you don't say, "hugs and kisses"!

If I am in a hurry, I say, '73s'. If not, I say, '73, 73, 73'. The latter not being one of the choices.

I just say "goodbye." There is no reason to use shorthand during a phone contact.

When I was a novice back in '74, I'd do a "73 de WB7BUG" on the old staight key. When I went to phone I found a lot of people do 73's and it caught on with me for a bit, but then I took a look at my SOP and decided that I should quit mutating the original and went back to saying "73"--after all it, and just about anything else, sounds a lot better than: "Shut up butthead and send me the card!"

well about the 'correctness ' of 73..
you do not say "best regard' you say best Regards which implys it is a singular usage, . endeing in 's' neither plural or possesive..
regards being a conglomeration of goodness, but still a "unit" , hence singluar.

so why not 73s ,( plural) hence multiple 'units' of goodness..

I believe 73 should be used only on CW since that is where it originated. Just say "so long", "catch you later" etc.

I say SEVEN THREE. Don't care what the proper usage is, don't care what other people say or think, that's just what I say.

We need a selection for none of the above. On phone I don't think I have ever said 73 or 73s. I just say "goodbye", "have a good day", or whatever is appropriate. A lot of the guys in these parts say "be safe" on VHF, most of us travel quite a bit in our normal routines.
