China buying American land to build self sustaining cities???
I don't know if this is good or bad.
China Wants To Construct A 50 Square Mile Self-Sustaining City South Of Boise, Idaho
Chinese company eyes Boise As economic power shifts to Asia, Idaho’s location makes it a prime site for an industrial foothold.
I dunno.....they aren't just buying land, that land will become a 'special economic zone' and be owned by China. Will they be hiring Americans at a fair wage, or will they be exempt and bring in their own labor? Will they be bound to environmental laws? What does 'self sustaining' really mean? To me, it means that no goods or services will be used that do not come from inside the zone, thus no positive impact, financially, for the surrounding areas. The areas will even have their own homes and neighborhoods.
Why does China want these special zones? What would be wrong with just building and operating here like Japan has done?
The whole thing just doesn't set right with me for some reason.....it sounds like they want to build a bunch of 50 square mile communes here, IMHO.

They are welcome to buy it. Of course, they will be subject to all the federal, state and local AMERICAN Laws and regulations to what they do with it. I know Japan has bought much of Hawaii. (That is incredibly ironic considering what happened there one Dec 7th)
I know a GREAT place for the Chinese to buy! It is on top of a mountain east of San Diego. Great radio location! but they better bring their RAID as there are LOTSA Black Widows! I'll give them a WHOPPER of a deal on it! Justa few MILLION YEN!

No, they won't.
A Special Economic Zone ( SEZ) is a geographical region that has economic and other laws that are more free-market-oriented than a country's typical or national laws. "Nationwide" laws may be suspended inside a special economic zone.

In other words, China wants to revive the enclave colony.
I could see state and federal officials toying with the idea of a Chinese colony in the US iff American labor laws were respected. Given that US labor laws probably wouldn't be respected, I doubt that the US would permit this. Are the Chinese going to physically attack Idaho to gain an American enclave? (GREAT B-movie storyline!)
As for environmental issues, I would wager that a more conservative US administration would be more lenient about carbon emissions and manufacturing by-products. Chinese companies who wish to set up manufacturing plants on US soil even without challenging American sovereignty better hope for an enviromentalist-dogma-skeptical US federal government in 2012.

I have serious problems with this.
I knew about this almost two years ago and hit the roof.
Talk about government sponsored invasion The filth who allowed this to happen should be tried for treason and hung by the neck until dead
In Public.

I saw Michigan mentioned but had no luck searching. I would like to know more about Michigan's intent. If you have a link.......
Thanks!
