Default Enhanced chirp on my HW-16!

Greetings all. I have my HW-16 all tweaked and twiddled for 40 meters tonight...I'll be hanging out on the SKCC frequencies for the most part. Listen for my rich, distinctive chirp! I was thinking of removing the 0a2 in my HG-10 VFO for even further "seasoning", but the FCC might consider that a bit silly.

Hey....it even works on 15 meters. Chirps backwards up there, though

Are you running the HG-10 from a separate power supply like Heath recommends in the instruction manual?

Is "enhanced chirp" anything like "enhanced SSB?"

My homebrew HF rig built in 1966 (and on the air right now for SKN) has a chirp if I use the homebrew VFO in it. So, I don't. The external Hallicrafters HA-5 fixed that.

That darned HA-5 is an amazing VFO. Bought it in '66 or '67 for about $79 or so; it's stable as can be and still works. I think it still has all its original dust inside, since I've never removed the cover in 44 years or so.

I always liked the purple glow from that tube in my `TR-4CW.

For that really distinctive, DX-grabbing chirp, just dial down the power supply voltage.
