Most if not all logging programs that are out there will upload and download to LOTW pretty easily that shouldn't be an issue.
You can migrate (export or import full or partial logs) from one logging program to another easily. They will make an ADIF file that the others can import. Sometimes there is a glitch to overcome as not all logs look at or keep the same info, kind of a formatting issue. There is usually good support online in program specific user groups.
I will import N1MM and MixW contest logs into Logger32, my main logging program. I have imported from others as well.

LOTW is for ARRL awards and now CQ magazine awards. CQ also takes eQSL info for awards.
I have about 6,000 entries in Logger32. That isn't that many really. I hand entered about 1,000 entries from QSL cards I had that I wanted to track for awards several years ago to get caught up. I don't care to do all my regular and older contest logs that would be a lot of work! I just did it as I had time or felt like it, all the time logging new QSO's in to the program.
I went from LOGic 3 (DOS based on a 386 computer), to 4, then 6. Then I migrated to ACLog, and now use Logger32. There is always some learning curve but it is not too bad and you get more savvy along the way about the programs.

CQRlog 1.3.0 where eQSL upload is as seamless as the LoTW upload.

I've learned that Logger 32, n3fjp software will not run on Vista.
Forget about LoTW, they don't make a book for Dummies on how to understand and setup their program.

I have used AClog for a few years now and haven't had any problems. I did have to reinstall windows one time, due to a virus that got past the anti-virus I was using, but I have all my ham programs on a second partition so didn't lose anything but the reconnecting info to LOTW. An e-mail took care of that

I've tried several, but have settled on N3FJP's logging suite. Yes it costs money, but it is a solid software set. AClog works, and I've used that as well as the HRD log program. I just like N3FJP's better.

CQRlog for Linux, LOTW and EQSL support. cant go wrong, and the Peter OK2CQR is always making it better.. Oh ya dont forget Fldig, Oh and CQRlog has an option to use QRZ or HamQTH for look ups, "HAMQTH" is a free look up service and is built into CQRlog and Fldig. thought I would mention that Peter OK2CQR is the guy who wrote both CQRlog and HamQTH FWIW Tom

I'm a complete beginner, and tried only www.hrdlog.net, but found immediate annoyances. For instance, if you forget your password (logging on using someone else's PC for instance), you can have it generate a new one for you, but there's no way to select your own password. Yeah, I've tried everything... though maybe a firewall is making part of a page not viewable? Also, I'm sure I entered four QSOs but only two show now. And the hrdlog.net site (which doesn't resolve by domain name only) has no place to even ask stuff like that. So far I've found pen and paper to be the only thing I can count on.

You may want to try the new Log4OM (It's free). It works very good and the support is great.
