Bit the Bullet: Shack remodel - how often for you?
Simple question I guess.
I'm sort of obsessive about the station layout - I'm loath to screw down anything since I'm likely, at a moments notice, to rip the entire thing out and do it over...AGAIN!
So as discussed previously, I've recently aquired an amp and a second legal limit tuner. Sadly, these two additonal items just totally overloaded my 5' radio table, and did not fit well with my shelves - you can see the former layout in my current zed page, soon to change.
So, realizing that being able to read and tweak the two tuners [balanced line and unbalanced line units - the BL for my 160 meter loop, the other one to fine tune my dipoles, verticals and beam for the benefit of the amplifier] was critical, and that the tuners were deep....So I sourced 20" deep wall brackets and two finished Alder shelves a total of 18.5" wide [Gives me a nice big inch air space at back of shelf for wires to be passed] and put a real overshelf on the wall, relocated the old overshelves a foot above that, and completely re-wired and laid out the hardware. I eliminated an extension cord for the Amplifer which is nice.
This is the fourth time this year that I've done a complete shack remodel. Anyone else spend that much time or do you all get a perfect layout the first time?
I doubt that I will ever be completely happy with a shack layout, I think that I just really enjoy the process of re-doing things every once in a while.
