    Default Alinco Dj195 losing memory

    Hi,
I am new to ham radio just received my Tech. license last Thurs. I have bought a used radio on ebay (i'm cheap) and seems to work good with great TX and Rx to local repeaters. The only problem is that it seems to lose its channel memory intermittently. Doesn't seem to be anything that causes it. I have looked online for a possible internal battery to no avail. I thought i had figured it out by keeping fresh batteries in it but I have had it on Ac for the last 2 weeks and it has been doing fine then yesterday. It lost most but not all of my channels in memory. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

The DJ195 uses an EEPROM for memory. The part number for this is AT24C16N. It's an eight pin IC. This sends information to the CPU. If there is a problem with the EEPROM then it could be dropping bits. That would cause your memory to be erratic. The other possiblity is that the CPU is not responding to the information that is being sent to it. Since the operation of the unit requires the CPU for it to work it is unlikely that the CPU has a problem.
Since the DJ195 uses an EEPROM there will be no backup battery for the memory.
    Hope this helps
    And welcome to amateur radio.
