    Default HRD Without Rig Control

Is it possible to use HRD 5 without Rig Control? Main features I am looking to use is the Logbook and Digital Modes. I have a Donner Digital Interface, but not a rig control cable. Will HRD work for me?

You can use it that way but you'll have to manually enter frequency and mode when you log contacts.
You may need to set the radio to Dem-O-Matic.

I know it will work, but you may want to ask at the HRD forums for more specific information about using it this way.

Obviously it won't do all the fancy stuff like adjusting power out, any DSP settings, notch, etc.; whatever fancy features your radio allows control of via CAT.
    What model radio is it?

Yes you can use the log book and DM780 without running HRD. Install the software, go into the directory on your hard drive and make copies of the log book icon and DM780 icon and paste them on your desktop.

As mentioned, you will have to enter the frequency manually for logging.

So if your radio is an older model that has no CAT control you can still use the other two programs.

I also answered this in you other thread. And the comments made by others here is indeed correct. There is no need to even start HRD. If you do use HRD Log, you can enter the frequency via the Bulk Edit function (for those QSOs on the same frequency). For example, you just ran 20 QSOs on 14.070 and had them all automatically enter into your log in HRD logbook. You're going to quit for the day, so over in HRD Log, select those 20 QSOs my highlighting them using normal Windows functions. After they are highlighted, under MORE is the Bulk Editor. Select that and then follow the menu to add the Frequency to the QSOs. All done.

Something you might consider for digital modes is setting up the HRD rig interface in "demo" mode. You can do it from the startup screen where it tries to connect to a rig. You can create a virtual TS-480HX (maybe others too) and set the frequency manually, e.g. to 14.070. Then the logbook will get the correct frequency, and if you are running PSK reporter, the correct band will be reported for the database. It's not too much of a hassle particularly if you plan a long digital-mode run on a single frequency.

I use demo mode when running DM-780 and the logbook with my TS-830s and Signalink USB.
