Hated the idea of having to learn the code. But had a great Elmer that made the learning great fun. Haved been CW almost exclusive for about 20 years and love it. Thanks to Terry AB4UM. Age 64 years young.

Among other things, that wonderful CW requirement always seemed to serve as a very effective "high-pass filter", generally keeping out the low-life and the riff-raff....both the CW and phone QSOs were usually clean and nice, something to be proud of....the amateur radio corps during those years was a stable and largely responsible group of folks who had made a definite commitment to do what had to be done obtain their license....they did whatever they had to do to learn the code and pass the test....that separated them from those who had somehow convinced themselves that they just couldn't learn the code , and from the current "Saturday-morning-wonders" who can sometimes go from Technician-to-Extra before lunch....CW operators were largely, and still are, very proud of their call-signs, because they had actually "earned" their call-signs....no one wanted "a vanity call" because their assigned call-sign was the very unique product of their own significant effort, something akin to their own name, something to be very proud of....I would be ashamed today to have a non-ham friend or loved one listen "cold" with me to portions of the HF phone bands....I hope the three entities that are responsible for all this, are happy!

Age here is 51,got my novice May 14,1975. I work mostly cw,with some phone on hf and repeaters. There are some advantages of being older. You can say you remember the red line on your meter indicating 75 watt input power from your HW-16!

Same here, though the same is true of all modes not just CW.
