    Default Centron Clipperton L Input

I have a Dentron Clipperton L, without tuned input. I will be using it on possibly one of two rigs - either the Kenwood TS-940S or the Yaesu FT-950. Without a readily available CM-1, tuned input, can I use the autotuners in either of these radios, or do I need to use a seperate outboard tuner between the rig and the amplifier? Thanks
Life is too short not to be kind. We will only pass this way but once. Whatever good we do, do it FOR someone else.

How long have you had the amplifier?

The Clip-L has myriad issues, and lack of a tuned input is only one of them. As I recall (I had one about 30+ years ago) it didn't even have grid current metering (I think), which is a pretty big mistake since that's an important parameter.

I think it's also been revealed that its plate tank Q was way too high on some bands, making for a lot of heating when there didn't need to be any.

But anyway, how long have you had the amp and what did you use it with previously?

I have an ATI-6 input circuit board from an LK-500 that has adjustable pi network input circuits for 160-10 meters. The CM-1 external matching unit has a similar type board. If anyone knows if this unit will work for the Clipperton L it is for sale. It can be installed inside the amplifier. Lou

I have a bare Dentron board for 6 bands available for $17.50 which includes postage. Mouser and other places have the DPDT DIP relays, mica trimmers, fixed micas and toroids. Values can be determined from on line calculators.

The elegant solution would be to find a suitable phenolic wafer (or ceramic) and add to the front of the existing bandswitch. Then all you do is run the ground side of the relay line to the contacts and ground the wiper. This is what Dentron did with later production and also offered a kit.
