QRZ download database not populating HRD log "state" field.
I am aware that the Database Download (no longer on CD but now available for on line download, and updated on a daily basis) does not include all the information available on the earlier (legacy) CDs , or on the XML Subscription service. HOWEVER, it DOES include the STATE, and the State is not being captured and placed in the HRD logbook when off line, or anytime when using the Download Database instead of the XML subscription.. The State field remains empty.
See the 3 screen captures below.
Capture 1
The screen seen when using the Database Download on a standalone basis (not in the logbook page, but just as it appears when clicking on the toolbar icon). Makes no difference if internet is connected or not since the database is saved to a file. Note it includes the State.
Capture 2
The screen seen when making a log entry off line, using the Download Database to autofill the logbook fields. Note it does NOT populate the State field.
Capture 3
Is a screen showing a pop up box visible when updating a previous log entry. It reveals that themailing address & zip code info is included, but NOT the State, which is completely missing. No wonder the Download Database does not autofill the State information into the logbook, since the State info is missing.
Why is that ? Is it a problem with the HRD logbook, or is it with the Database Download from QRZ.com ?
Is there a way to fix it to capture the State information on autofill ?
I've also posted this on the HRD User's Support Forums, but so far no answer there.
I just want the State to be filled in automatically and can't figure why it won't do it.

Randy,
The use of the 'state' is generally unique to the US. Most countries have 'states', but rarely use them in mailing formats. Since HRD is a globally used software, some features we in the US might think important are not to the vast majority of the world. We have to accept this as being the reality it is. (Germany comes to mind. Did you know there are two major cities in Germany called Frankfurt! More interestingly, they are not know by the state they are in, rather by the River they straddle. Frankfurt am Oder and Frankfurt am Main)
So, what I have found to work, is to use HRD Utilities and the QRZ online update feature. If you check all the boxes in the QRZ Update portion of the HRD Utilities program, it will populate the state field appropriately.
Hope this is helpful to you.

Jim:
Thanks for the tip about HRD Utilities.
I downloaded it and allowed it to go back to the very beginning of my HRD log (about 6 years), and downloaded all the State information.
It worked like a charm and populated all the State fields, and the Canadian provinces too.
Now my logbook is complete, and all is well with the world (except for our terrible drought).
I found out on HRD Users Forum that the coding in their program is causing the problem, and it looks like they have no intention of fixing it.
So in the future, whenever I operate portable, I will just transfer the portable log over to my regular HRD log when I get home, and allow HRD Utilities to fill in those missing State fields.

Randy - you want rain, I got rain. For only $24.95 I can send you a bucket of rain!* Here in New Hampsha, we've had over an inch in the last 3 Days! Over 18" so for this year...
Glad I could help with the tip on HRD Utilities. Now, if you try HRD Label, I can also help you there. Now that's a REAL challenge!
* = Bucket extra. Not responsible for spillage or evaporation. All sales final. Rain will contain various leaves, twigs and other icky pond scum. May contain mosquitoes or mosquito eggs. Not responsible for bacteria, polly wogs or other biological materials. USDA approval is not implied. The FDA has not certified this rain water to heal any ailments. Will be wet. May be slippery. Do not try to breath this water. Keep out of reach of those who do not know how to use 'rain watta'. Purchase implies consent and some knowledge on how this product is applied. Aptitude is required. Attitude is not.

I'll pass on the HRD Labels.
I might buy that water before this drought is over. Even the weeds are dying, and the scorpions are moving into the house. Mother Nature is not happy.
It looks like HRD is in a current state of suspended development, but it appears that may change.
If Terry - G4POP, takes over HRD /DM780, it could be further refined and developed. It may not be free after that however. If it is further developed, I would not be adverse to purchasing or subscribing to it, if the cost is reasonable, and there is some way to pay besides Pay Pal.

I have been a continuous HRD contributor since I began using it several years ago. I will continue, which ever path it takes. When Simon took off on the SRD tangent, he began leaving HRD behind. Sad really, as it was his passion for so long. We'll see what way it goes.
