Default Interface ICOM IC-706 Audio with Car audio

I am getting ready to install my ICOM IC-706 in my 2010 Jeep Wrangler and it will probably work best for the radio to be under the driver seat. Control head will be on the dash. Has any one tried interfacing the Audio out to the vehicle AM/FM radio speakers? Maybe the 706 audio out could just be plugged into the MP3 input. Of course an external speaker is an option as well, just thinking about simplifying things. Any ideas? Thanks

It should work fine but plug it in with the volume on the Icom set to zero then crank it up but not too much so you're not overdriving the input. Unfortunately I can't do that on my Icom 7000 because of that annoying high pitched tone it has.

You can, but you probably won't like it. Car stereo systems have wide frequency response, especially the higher ones. Even resetting the tone controls will still allow a large amount of high frequency hiss through. The hiss is very tiring in the long haul.

The best is to mount a 4 or 5 inch speaker under the drivers seat, pointed up. The insulation on the seat will muffle a lot of the high frequencies, and extend the low ones.

I won't need to try this, I got it installed under the seat and was very surprised at how strong the audio is. No problem hearing it even in very noisy conditions.

I use an fm transmiter on 88.9fm. You can tune car to 88.9 and hear 706 out put great. these run $9.99 - $20. mine uses 2 AAA batteries and lasts. I do recommend using a west mtn radio clr speech external DSP. it will cut out 75% of the white noise and electrical power line noise and adjacent vehical interference. http://www.westmountainradio.com/product_info.php?products_id=CLR_spkr
