Default Yaesu 857D USB CAT Cable on Mac OS X with SignaLink USB / MacLoggerDX

    Greetings,

Can anyone provide any assistance for interfacing a Yaesu 857D through a SignaLink USB for OS X? The machine I would like to interface with is running OS 10.5.8. It worked for a day or so and then would not connect. Yaesu support does not address this as far as I can find. Also, I have a very low SWR but when transmitting, it has reset all settings on the 857D back to factory defaults. This happens only when the CAT cable is connected... and not an option for any type of use. Could it be a faulty USB cable? Just looking for possible solutions if anyone can help.

    Thanks in advance,

    Andy - KK4CQN

hello.a couple of questions. The Signa l link has it's own usb cable to data port not to cat?the cat port setting on the menu has three options cat-linear-tuner,is that correct? Is the cat cable an RT systems usb interface.?I had a couple of tries with Prolific and FTDI chipset serialto usb cables the would not be recognized. At transmit withthe wrong cable the 857 would reset to default configuration. The ADMS sofware and RTS cableworked first try.QRP digital is a lot of fun once you get the configuration.73 good luck.WN4VSU

    Look at them separately...

Get the Signalink working first. You don't HAVE to have the cat cable hooked up. We hams have been turning the VFO for years... Your problem is not likely related to the Signalink.

The cat cable is just a serial interface. Using one of the pre-made cables should work. Mine was to an RS232 and not to a usb so had to get a serial>usb adapter. Just make sure your menu option is set correctly as above. Get HRD working without the Signalink. Once the work separately they should work together..

I have similar setup using an FT897 with SignaLink USB, MacDXLogger and a iMac 10.6.8.
N5MDT has the right approach. Set up the SL and get it working without the CAT cable [SignaLink does not use the CAT]. Turn off SL to set up DXLogger, connect the CAT cable and set up the prefs table for radio in DXLogger.
Use the CAT62 Yaesu cable for the CAT interface for DXLogger computer control. Other serial/USB cables do not work - I have tried
three different ones. If you need assistance with the settings in the prefs panel, let me know via email.

Check to make sure your sound settings are set to USB Codec. Without selecting the USB Codec your Mac will not work with the SignaLink.

KF7PDV, what serial to usb adapter are you using? I have been having difficulty getting my FT-897 to talk with MacloggerDX and I think it might be the serial/usb adapter. Thanks for your help, 73 W7JOR
