For me, unless someone is skilled at amplifier design and service, and for tube amps that would mostly be people over 50 years old who were once involved in manufacturing amplifiers, I'd have a hard time trusting anyone.
I read some stuff on the web in the "audiophile" forums, written by people of all ages but mostly younger than 60, and it's very "enlightening" how little people know about tube amplifiers, even when they are the acknowledged experts in the field. They're mostly full of baloney.
There are two dealers/service shops in the Toronto area, one of which is right in Toronto. I'd be interested in knowing which one WB2WIK is referring. My email is ve3bdb@sympatico.ca

I didn't refer to either of them, as I'm nowhere near there and don't know who they are. It was VE3FMC who said he'd never send an amplifier to one of them.

Personally I would not use either dealer for repairs. I am not shipping an AL-80A to Toronto. I can drive a half hour and get it repaired by someone I know personally. I know it will be repaired properly and I will spend way less than I would by having a dealer do it.
If someone knows how to do some research there are hams who are capable of doing those repairs, listed on a certain website that is very popular with Canadian hams. There is a net on every Sunday night at 7 PM that uses that website.
I'll just leave it at that.

My apologies. Evidently I directed my reply incorrectly.

Wow! I know a place here that's very popular for Canadian Bacon, and I'm kind of partial to it, too...

Care to be more explicit, Richard? My email is ve3bdb@sympatico.ca and I would appreciate your input. Tks.

I try to be clever if I can.
I like Toronto a lot. Used to have an office in Rexdale, pretty close to the airport, 1977-1987 and was up there probably 24 times a year back then.
Had an office in Ottawa (well, Bells Corners) too. The WX there was terrible compared with Toronto.
