Unhappy Having a problem getting EchoLink!

I used to get on EchoLink some months back until my computer went south. So now it is back in business. It it Dell model 2400 and I am using XP Professional. Before then I was using Juno with dialup, but now I connected with DSL using Qwest Router and somehow EchoLink will not cooperate with it. The Router I have is Qwest 1000 and the informaion on bottom is as follows: *************** and the pin number reads ********. So, is there someone out there can help me?

Sounds like you have a new IP address, and need to do some port forwarding: http://portforward.com/

Dude, for Pete's sake - don't publicly post the ID and PIN number to your router!!

And yes - read up on port forwarding to get EchoLink working. You must set things up so an incoming connection request on a range (?) of ports are forwarded from your router to the PC running the EchoLink software. This is networking stuff. If I remember right - they're UDP and TCP ports involved.

On my Qwest DSL modem, I had to go in and change the port forwarding, as others have suggested. I have a separate wireless router, so I had to set port forwarding on the Qwest modem to forward the EchoLink ports to the router address. Then, on the router, I use port triggering to route those ports to the target computer. I got the info on setting up the modem from the Qwest web site.

In the meantime, you can use EchoLink proxies.

I am not sure what you were telling me that I need to change my the port forwarding and how is that done? How do I contact Qwest site to get this help? My router is connected with my xyl's computer too, would that make a difference? Also how do link up with EchoLink proxies. MY Router is Qwest 1000 and the computer I am using is Dell Dimension 2400 a little old maybe. Whatever can help to solve this problem would be very appreciated.:confused

I think this web page will get you started in the right direction. Identify the modem first, and then look for the documentation. http://www.qwest.com/internethelp/modems.html I think for most of those units, there is an advanced setup page that will tell you about port forwarding. Changing the port forwarding just for the EchoLink ports shouldn't affect anything else. If your DSL modem and router is one unit, then you only have to do it on the one system - much simpler. You'll need to set up your PC with a static address - that is, an IP address on your internal LAN that does not change. Then, you set up the router to forward the EchoLink ports to that static IP address. The EchoLink website has more information on this. http://www.echolink.org/firewall_solutions.htm

Details on proxy configuration can be found here: http://www.echolink.org/proxy.htm
