Ham Radio and the entrepreneurial spirit
Should amateur radio operators be allowed to advertise their station or solicit their own personal services or business on the air?
Why or why not?
-
No - that's what the commercial services are for.

That makes two consecutive "why or why not" troll threads.

Why should amateur radio be any different? Why can't I append a footer on my beacon with the URL of my website that sells something? Why shouldn't I be able to do that?
I can put a sign on my car. I can post a sign in my yard. Why can't I put it on the air?

If you think its a troll thread, why are you responding to it???
That's like saying "I don't like pooh" and then eating it.

There is a rule against it. 97.113. There is no physical reason you couldn't do it though. If you want to play by the rules of HR, you won't do it.

Well, I don't know exactly how Fred feels. But companies who advertise on my web sites are charged for it.
I am self-employed, but I don't use these forums to advertise my products or services. If I did, I would do the right thing and buy a banner ad from Fred.

Because it's unlawful, and you could lose your ham license. OK?
I'm going to go work the contest. It's probably more interesting there. ;-)

well, I suppose it is OK to sell personal amateur radio equipment on the air, there are often swap net.
swap net VHF and HF used to be much more popular before Internet, but now it seems die down quite bit.
I suppose you can submit request for rule change , if most HAM agree, and successful to rule change, perhaps conducting business or advertising business can become legal.
now I understand, it is OK to use ham radio as long as you are not making money, so such as calling to order pizza, calling tow truck on phone patch are legal now, before around 1993 ? those things were illegal to do so in HAM band.
well, rule can be changed.

That's good enough for me - there seem to be other folks around QRZ who think that the rules and regulations are a waste of time, for instance some think they should be able to take a test online and download their ticket... or maybe take no test at all...
If we are going to have regulations, then they need to be enforced or they don't mean anything, right? And you have to have some means in place of imparting the information about the regulations, and some way to certify people know what the regulations are I guess...
So it looks like you are voting in favor of regulations....?
