300 Hz filter for FT-857D

What is your opinion on the 300 Hz filter for a FT-857D?
Would it be worthwhile replacing my 500 Hz filter with it?
How is the audio? Does that filter ring, etc?
The 300 Hz filter is rather expensive and therefore don't want to find out the hard way.
What do you think?

I did not find it worth the expense for my 897D. The DBF is adjustable and works just as well.

Thanks MDT. Would it be correct to say that the 300 Hz filter performs just as good as the 500 Hz filter, the only difference being that it is 200 Hz tighter?

I think the 500Hz filter gives you a little more flexibility than a narrower filter would. For example if you get into some of the soundcard digital modes, and want to use the crystal filters, the 300 Hz would be too narrow for some popular modes.

Using the 500 Hz crystal filter in combination with the DSP filter should be sufficient for most CW and data mode needs.

If you're heavily into CW contesting, the 300 Hz might give you a slight edge over the 500Hz filter when conditions get extremely crowded, but if you're that much into CW contesting you'd probably want a better radio instead.
