I was thinking more along the lines of using ham radio as an alternative sentencing program. 6 months in the county lockup or learn CW.
We've been smeckledorfed!

I say that the best place to find new hams would be in the science and other like classes in middle or high school. It could be used as extra credit at the end of the first semester.
That would be the best time for them to study as well as learn the code.
Think about it....
Basic electronics, diagram reading.IMHO That would the best way to start.

There are very few personal problems that cannot be solved through the suitable application of high explosives.

I was thinking we should do this just to get more people to use the bands....

All we need is a bunch of hicks back from muddin' trashing 2 meters like CB
I like the Middle/High School science class idea a lot better, it should bring in less...well...prospective or current CB'ers (no offense to CB'ers, but I'd rather ham radio not turn into CB).

Alternative sentencing sounds nice too

Do you know how many rail cars it would take for a single street gang tag? Worse, they break up the train and then all of a sudden you'll start seeing mixed graffiti.

Oh the chaos.

I think we should discourage newbies the HF bands are too crowded all ready, and the last thing Ham radio needs is more people whinning and crying about how they were neglected.
ENJOY!! Life and Ham Radio are both Learning experiences....... # #73, # ORV
