My only complaint with them is the cord is a tad short for my tastes. I like to lean back in my chair and move around a bit and I can't do that with the cord on these.

    Make an extension!

I need to replace the cord on my set. Not because the existing cord is bad, but because I need to "split" the ear pieces. I have a system that allows me to choose to have certain receivers on both ear pieces or, when I am working "split" (i.e. working DX on 40-meter SSB), to put one receiver on one side and another receiver on the other side. That requires a 3-wire cord instead of the "normal" 2-wire cord.

I got a set of the surplus headphones and replaced the cord and foam. They seem to work great. Thanks.

An extension is the way to go, unless you replace the cord. The "ruggedized" stock coiled cord will put too much strain on the wires where they connect to a PL-259, etc. as you move around. I just soldered a length of cable (with a PL-259 on the end) onto the little metal caps covering the wires. I covered it all with various sizes of Alpha FIT-221V heat shrink tubing.

I agree, I solved the problem with an extension bought on ebay for about $3 w/shipping

    BTU:

Why a PL-259? Most people just use a PL-55 1/4th inch diameter phone plug.

Argh! Should have waited for the coffee before I replied. I thought one thing and typed another. That's what I meant, Glen! :-)

I ought to put UHF connectors on my headphone plugs, and N connectors on my mic plugs, just to see the reaction of visiting hams! ;-)

I'm not surprised they raised the price, I'll bet they had a "real run" on them!

I did find a new job for the surplus headset that it does much better than my other headsets. They seal out outside noise so well that they are the ideal headset to use with the FT-950 "monitor" feature while testing your own voice. This by the way this does create another problem, since you can't hear your own voice you end up shouting into the microphone while on the air!

I ordered 2 headsets from Wardens Supply, one headset had a bad ear piece (no sound), It was promptly replaced! Great customer service! Highly recommended!
