I've gotten my hands on a 2m,143-149MHz, 2in - 30 out amplifier by Kantronics. #It is model rfc 2-23, by R F Concepts. #It works SSB and FM according to the front panel switch and has a preamp on-off switch. #I am believing at this time that the power cord in the rear panel is for a 12volt supply and that the preamp is only required to be turned on in the SSB mode. #I would like to get this info verified prior to mating this to my HTX-420 HT for improved 2m operation in Simplex mode. #All help will be greatly appreciated. #Please respond either here or to my e-mail at llorvin@knology.net.

    Thanks and 73 #

If you have to ask, you probably should not do it.

    Vince,

These amps do indeed run on 12 volts (negative ground). Fuse the power, to be safe, eh? #The SSB/FM switch controls time delay after tranmitting; for FM you should put it in FM to avoid missing the first word or syllable of a reply.

The preamp may be used for both FM and SSB. Since using it makes your receiver more liable to intermodulation interference and overload, I'd recommend you leave it off except for REALLY weak signals.

    Have fun!

    Courtland -
Thanks for the reply. I was pretty sure about the power, but not so much about the preamp, thanks for the suggestion.
I plan to put this into service this weekend. I'll let you know how it works out.
    Thanks again.

P.S. - There will be a fused line.

Although there are many knowledgable people here on the forum, but the best way to get details about the product is to contact the maker (assuming they are still in business). RF Concepts should have an engineer that can answer your questions, and perhaps will provide you with a manual for free. Most of the guys there are probably hams, and hams usually will make the time necessary to help another ham, even in 2003 !
