Question What sun spots? SN = 0, again, for a couple days now?

I just noticed that the Sun Spot Number is back at ZERO... again.

Looks like it's been this way since the 20th? Could that be right?

Swans and Drakes do NOT belong in lakes. Maybe some Heathkits do, depending on who built them .

At this stage of the cycle you can expect the occasional spotless day, but there is a small group forming right now.

Unfortunately you are correct, even more unfortunately the Solar Flux index has fallen back to 78. SFI readings in the seventies indicate F2 propagation is poor to nonexistent.

Notice how cold it's been lately? It's the new Maunder Minimum. Duck and cover....

That's interesting.... which stage of the cycle are we at ? The stage where it hasn't really got fired up, or the stage where what bit there is has been snuffed out !

Me being rather long in de tooth, I can remember when the bands were overflowing with jolly amateurs giving their best voice to the airwaves every day during the winter months, and me having at least 15 contacts a day to my cousins in the New World. Ah, happy days, little did I realise it would come to a miserable end.

The cycle peaked a couple weeks ago. Sorry you missed it. You'll have to wait another 12 years to get on 10 meters.

Prop really has been hit and miss. The ARRL 10 meter contest two weeks ago wasn't so bad, we had E skip and some F2 also, at 28 MHz. Not today.

It's 0240 UTC and even 40m is collapsing.

Meteorologists around here are predicting a "mini Ice Age" coming up due to lack of sunspots (not a joke), with average temps well below normal for the next several years. Some are even saying the ancient Indian predictions about the world ending shortly are based on their study of sunspot cycles, but I think that's a bit out there.

Some say the world will end in fire,
    Some say in ice.

From what I've tasted of desire,
I'd go with those who favor fire...

(Name the poet, this is pretty famous...)

the poet will get his wish, for fire is the means by wich the earth will be destroyed (the first time was with water)
