    I got my BT headset and car BT set/MP3 player from BIG LOTS for around $15 to $20 each. They pick up phones and play music (HSP/AD2P dual personality).

    For WA6BEN, it plays "ITS MY LIFE" by Bon Jovi. Seems appropriate.

    You know Pat;
    You are having too much with that phone.

    Next you will be listening to the Nut on it with your bluetooth headseat.

    I don't usually get the free phones because they are feature limited. I hardly use any voice minutes so I primarily get them for the smartphone function.

    -I can confirm the new phone is activated and works, without calling anybody -- they just do it at the store, and I can try it out right there.
    Verizon is super slick now. You can enter your IMEI on the website and activate your phone with just a few clicks. Then dial *22890 for OTA programming and you're done.

    With AT&T you just swap your SIM card. However I just get them on the online chat and they do programming OTA.

    Also, if I want to "donate" my old phone to a worthy cause, they collect them there at the store and make sure they work and then donate them to a variety of charities, and they even let me pick one. I usually pick the local Battered Women's Shelter, a place where battered wives and girlfriends go to escape their idiot boyfriends or husbands who are often trying to still stalk them. Some of these women have no money and live at a shelter with a very private location, and they can use free phones to call 911 in an emergency. Worthy cause.
    I typically donate my used phones to "cell phones for soldiers" which actually recycles the materials in the phones and uses the proceeds to buy calling cards for our troops overseas to call home. There's a collection box at the recycling center. So when dropping off my cans, glass bottles, cardboard etc I just drop off any used phones I have.

    They're slick, alright.

    The huge Verizon store at a local mall here (Northridge Fashion Center) is in the "middle" of the mall, with no windows and no skylights nearby; as such, Verizon service in the store doesn't work!

    I find that amusing.

    When I get a phone there, they even say, "Oh, feel free to step outside the store into the mall, near a skylight, so it will work."

    At least AT&T puts mini cellsites in their stores, and in the Apple stores too.

    I had posted my ordeal with Verizon in the first thread. Canceled the account on August 6th. I was paid up until Sept 13th. Phone got turned off on Sept 13th. I received another bill for Sept - Oct. After discussing it with Verizon, they said it was my "final bill". Got tired of discussing it, so I paid it to take me through Sept till October. Verizon refused to turn my phone back on. This is theft....period. Then, they sent me another bill for Oct through November. I called them and told them how things were. One more letter, bill, phone call, advertisement in the mail and it goes to the courts.

    I was a customer of Verizon Wireless since 2002. No problems with the service or customer support in this time. But, after all that, they are nothing more than common thieves.

    Good luck canceling your account if you are a current customer.
