Today was the big day for Phoebe. She went in early with WA6BEN to the El Cajon Animal Hospital for her appointment to get Spayed. She had just entered HEAT again, so that complicated the process (though I don't know why!) and I was most anxious to hear the results. I paced the floor like an Expectant father, worrying and hoping all would go OK
WA6BEN said that she could be operated on at any time today, but the VET chose to do her first since she was so Skittish and nervous. She couldn't imagine what was up for her, and never imagined what the Vet would be doing to her. She probably BIT alot of the Technicians there before she was finally knocked out and the operation began.
It went quickly, as they do hundreds of these a week, so nothing new inside her. But I still worried powerfully nevertheless.
She was done before noon, but they wanted her to rest and recouperate in ICU for awhile before she could be released.
WA6BEN suggested I go and pick her up (as I will later describe WHY!) and brought the cat carrier over to work. I could get her at 2PM
The Animal Hospital is a brand new facility and very neat and clean. Just like a People hospital, not some backwoods clinic. They processed her records and handed me the Bill.
GULP!!! $90.16 please! NOW you know why WA6BEN wanted me to pick her up. So HE WOULDN"T HAVE TO PAY THE BILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wrote out a check and they verified my identity, and returned shortly with Phoebe in the carrier.
Phoebe had a very DAZED look in her eyes, and a ridiculous LAMPSHADE to wear for the next several days. I brought her into work and showed everyone the kitten. They were happy she was in the carrier and not walking around. This work facility is not suitable for Pets. But there might be some MICE she would like to chase. Not today though. Chasing mice is the LAST thing she wants to do.
Phoebe sits on the table next to the desk, still in the carrier and that is where she will stay until we get home. Then she can get out. She has MEDS to take too. Something called TORBUGESIC ELIXER. It is a Pain Killer and needs to be forced into her mouth every 8 hours. Maybe I can get WA6BEN to administer it to her, since he works with animals all day.
Phoebe is not allowed to run up and down the stairs, or participate in games with Penny for a few days. So we will lock her in the GUEST ROOM where Penny can't access. She will be a lonely kitten as she is used to sleeping with us on our bed at night, but we can't chance her damaging or infecting her stitches. They come out in 2 weeks.
Penny has an appointment next, so she is in for it too. Phoebe will probably tell her "WHAT EVER YOU DO, DON'T LET THEM PUT YOU IN THE CAT CARRIER!!!" But Penny needs it done too! Her date is the middle of December. So that will be ANOTHER $90 I am probably forced to pay!
