    Default IC-751A Band switch problem

My well loved ic-751a will not switch between bands in the ham mode. In the general mode, the rig will step in 1 mhz increments as it should but in the ham mode, nothing happens when I engage the "band" button and rotate the tuning knob. Also, the VFO switch is not working either...I cannot switch between VFOs. Any suggestions? Memory card battery is old but still reads 3 volts.

Personally, that would have been one of the first updates, I would have performed!
IF that battery has never been changed -- at > 25 years it is well beyond its design life (10 years).

Less headaches and worrying in future -- update to modern technology -- and no future issues or battery replacements.

In 2005, a TS-440SAT that I refurbished still held its memories -- BUT the battery had begun to leak.
Fortunately, I automatically checked it (and found leakage, which is thh radio's uP control board).

Cleaned up battery acid -- no damage to PC board traces, YET.
New, fresh lithium coin cell installed.

    W9GB,

Thanks, probably not the problem. Tried with several of the ICM 1024 board but no help. They are non-volatile for the basic functions and should still work. The problem is likely in the peripheral interface chip and the cost of repairs and shipping on a 20 year old rig that has spent its life in a marine environment is probably putting good money after bad.
