License plate mount
Has anyone used the Lakeview License plate mount? How does it work for you? I am thinking about putting one on my Beetle because there just isn't too much to choose from on a small car.

What frequencies do you plan to operate?

We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to piss us off.

You do realize that most cars have pretty flimsy mounting points for the license plates? I think most of the 'new' Beetle owners around here have a trailer hitch and use a hitch mount.

I bought one of these a few years ago just to see what it was (they're pretty cheap).
It's too light duty for an HF antenna (other than maybe a single Hamstick or CB whip) and installs in a terrible place for a VHF or UHF antenna (too low, too blocked by the car's sheet metal), so I couldn't really use it for anything.
If you go with this, let us know how it works out for you.

I put one on my wife's car for a temporary mount when my car was on an extended rehab stay. It was sufficiently strong for a hamstick. From an electrical standpoint, I cannot imagine that it supplies much of an image plane - perhaps a little better than a magmount, maybe as good as a trunk lid mount. Maybe.
But any antenna is better than no antenna. And hf mobile is a lot of fun, even with a minimal antenna, especially as the upper hf bands reopen.
But there is no substitute for a good body mount. Look at the pics on www.k0bg.com. If you aren't ready to drill, baby, drill right now, you may ar least find some aspirational material. In any case, have fun!
